HDP CODEL to Belgium, Moldova, Romania, and Greece
The House Democracy Partnership (HDP), led by Chairman Vern Buchanan, traveled to Belgium, Moldova, Romania, and Greece to engage in a series of high-level dialogues with leaders and parliamentarians on relations with the United States and continued support for democratic resilience across Europe. These parliamentary and executive exchanges provided Members of Congress with valuable insights into shared challenges and economic opportunities. The delegation included Ranking Member Dina Titus (D-NV), Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), Rep. Neal Dunn (R-FL), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), and Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN).
In Brussels, the delegation met with senior EU officials, including President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and participated in a roundtable with Members of the European Parliament from across the political spectrum to reaffirm transatlantic cooperation. In Moldova, Members held discussions with President Maia Sandu, Foreign Minister Mihail Popșoi, and Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu on regional security concerns and the upcoming parliamentary elections. The delegation then traveled to Romania, where they met with interim President Ilie Bolojan and Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, both of whom underscored their commitment to a strong U.S.-Romania partnership. In Greece, the delegation met with Hellenic Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis to discuss regional cooperation and advancing democratic reforms among countries seeking European Union membership.
Throughout the trip, the HDP delegation emphasized the importance of strengthening interparliamentary collaboration as a means of advancing U.S. strategic interests in national and economic security.
